Tunisia’s main international airport for scheduled flights is Tunis-Carthage International Airport near Tunis. The airport is named for the historic city of Carthage, located just north of the airport. It is the base of operations for four airlines: Tunisair, Nouvelair Tunisia, Sevenair and Tunisavia. In 2007, it served 3,930,661 passengers. All ground handling is provided by Tunisair Handling, a 100% subsidiary of Tunisair, and security services are provided by the Police and the Customs. The airport is located 7 kilometers northeast of Tunis. It takes 15-30 minutes to drive from the centre of the city to the airport, depending on traffic. A car park with 2,500 spaces is located just outside the terminal. Car rental company is represented at the Tunis-Carthage airport, with desk in arrivals. The Office National du Tourisme Tunisien has a desk in the main hall. ATMs, telephones and 24-hour currency exchange offices are available in both arrivals and departures. A post office can be found in departures. Mobile phone hire is available too. There are several snack bars at the airport, and a restaurant can be found in departures. Shops sell luxury goods and local produce, as well as duty-free, are available. There is a travel agent in arrivals and a small tourist office on the first floor of departures. There is also a hairdresser’s in arrivals. First aid is available. A VIP lounge is available in departures. There are no business or conference facilities at the airport. The airport is served by bus, taxi, but not by railway. From the airport, you can catch a taxi to the center of Tunis (beware, meters may be rigged). Alternatively, take bus number 635 or 35 to Ave Habib Bourguiba for around 1 dinar. The bus comes roughly every half-hour and stops in front of the terminal.
